Art in Kerikeri is an online gallery representing a set of artists who live & work in Kerikeri, New Zealand - in the country's beautiful far north Bay of Islands. Together these people make and offer original and affordable art works inspired by the beautiful surrounds of Taitokerau-Northland. Please enjoy these creative expressions.
The taste of colour & a touch of place: I love them both, sometimes each by itself, sometimes together. And, as a “cock-eyed optimist”, I want you to feel, when you look, a sense of pleasure, fun, mellowness, excitement (something!).
I am inspired by an image that "touches" me. And, I aim to create a painting which, in turn, elicits emotion in its viewer. My images are usually taken from nature: landscapes, flora and fauna. And, like many artists, I want to have feelings, as well as thoughts, about the subject I am painting. Some of my works can take months to complete as I work in all shapes and sizes with a great attention to detail. I often changing the shape of my canvases to create an interesting outline for the painting itself. I continue to evolve as an artist and I absolutely thrive on finding new ways to create the right finish, texture, or effect I wish to achieve.
My paintings reflect my concern for the environment .
I work in acrylics and choose to use layers of paint and pattern to create my semi abstract compositions . My palette is often limited to black , white and earth colours but I will occasionally break out with a combination of brights . As I paint I try to create my own story and hope it may convey something to the viewer
With a foundation in technical drawing, I work in a variety of mediums: watercolour, acrylic , oils and coloured pencils and produce a versatile range of subjects and techniques which often show strong design elements.
I paint for my own enjoyment and hopefully for yours too. I have always aimed to create with careful lines & details. And, whenever possible, I go with whimsy & vivid colours.
